Stock market hours on a normal day
The NYSE and Nasdaq core session runs from 9:30 am ET to 4:00 pm ET, Monday to Friday. On an early-close day it ends at 1:00 pm ET. Pre-market and after-hours sessions exist on both exchanges, but liquidity there is thin and many brokers and prop firms limit trading in them.
Not every federal holiday closes the market. Columbus Day (Monday, October 12, 2026) and Veterans Day (Wednesday, November 11, 2026) are normal trading days for stocks, and CME settles futures at their normal times. Good Friday is the reverse: not a federal holiday, but the stock market is closed.
Holidays at prop firms
A stock market holiday does not close every market a prop trader uses. CME equity index futures trade a shortened session on most of these days and close fully only on New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas — see the CME holiday schedule for 2026. The forex market stays open through US holidays with thinner liquidity (forex market hours).
An early close brings any rule tied to the close forward with it — the time positions must be flat, and the end-of-day balance a trailing drawdown is measured from. Firms post their own holiday hours, so check the firm’s announcements as well as this calendar, or compare stock prop firms.

Is the stock market open on Good Friday 2026?
No. The NYSE and Nasdaq are closed on Good Friday, April 3, 2026, even though it is not a federal holiday. CME equity index futures traded an abbreviated session that morning, because the March jobs report was released the same day.
Is the stock market open the day after Thanksgiving 2026?
Yes, on a shortened session. On Friday, November 27, 2026, the NYSE and Nasdaq close early at 1:00 pm ET (eligible options at 1:15 pm ET). CME equity index futures close at 12:15 pm CT, which is 1:15 pm ET.
Is the stock market open on Christmas Eve 2026?
Yes, until 1:00 pm ET. Thursday, December 24, 2026 is an early close; the market is closed on Friday, December 25.
