FTMO Review: Rules, Profit Split & Payouts
FTMO is a Prague-based prop trading firm, operating since 2015, that sells two CFD evaluations: the 2-Step FTMO Challenge, which it calls its flagship since 2015, and the newer 1-Step FTMO Challenge. Both lead to a simulated FTMO Account of up to $200,000, trading forex, indices, commodities, stocks and crypto on MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader or TradingView. FTMO says it has processed over $650 million in rewards. A separate FTMO Futures product is in beta.
The FTMO challenge rules differ by product. The 2-Step asks for a 10% profit target in the FTMO Challenge and 5% in Verification, with a 5% maximum daily loss, a static 10% maximum loss and at least 4 trading days per phase. The 1-Step asks for 10% in a single phase with a 3% daily loss, a 10% maximum loss that trails at end of day, and a Best Day Rule: no single day may exceed 50% of positive days' profit, both to pass and to withdraw a reward. Neither challenge has a time limit. News trading and weekend holding are unrestricted during the evaluation, but a Standard FTMO Account may not open or close trades on affected instruments from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after selected news and must close before the weekend; the Swing account type, offered only on the 2-Step, lifts both. The forbidden trading practices page separately lists opening trades when major news is scheduled as gap trading. Capital across all accounts is capped at $400,000 per trader or strategy.
The FTMO profit split is 90% on the 1-Step and 80% on the 2-Step, rising to 90% through the Scaling Plan, which adds 25% to the balance every 4 months up to $2,000,000. A reward can be requested from the 14th day after the first trade and is typically sent within 1–2 business days of invoice approval, by bank wire, Visa Direct / Mastercard Send, Skrill or crypto. The 2-Step fee is refunded with the first reward; the 1-Step fee is not. FTMO publishes its challenge fees in a pricing table on its homepage, in the currency selected there.
1-Step and 2-Step CFD challenges, with FTMO Accounts up to $200,000
2-Step: 10% then 5% profit target, 5% daily and 10% static max loss, 4 minimum trading days
1-Step: 10% target, 3% daily loss, 10% end-of-day trailing max loss, 50% Best Day Rule
No time limit on either challenge
90% profit split on the 1-Step; 80% on the 2-Step, up to 90% with the Scaling Plan
2-Step fee refunded with the first reward; 1-Step fee not refunded
News and weekend restrictions apply only to Standard funded accounts; Swing accounts are exempt
No cap on account count, but a $400,000 capital allocation limit per trader

Is FTMO legit?
Prop Firm Pal has not verified FTMO, so this is not an endorsement: it is what the record shows. Its own pages name the operating company as FTMO s.r.o., in Prague, Czech Republic. It was founded in 2015. Its website has been active in Prop Firm Pal's monthly traffic record since November 2025, and traffic over the last three months is growing fast. It claims over $650 million in rewards paid to traders; that is its own figure, and we have not seen its payout records. Its payout policy is published, and summarised on the Payouts tab.

FTMO web traffic, month by month
Prop Firm Pal has tracked FTMO's website traffic every month since November 2025. In August 2026 the site received an estimated 9.59M visits, up 36% on the month before and up 74% over three months.
Growth of this size usually means active marketing rather than anything about payout reliability. A firm can grow quickly and still have strict rules.
These are third-party estimates of website visits, collected once a month and stored against the month they describe. They are not trader counts, funded-account numbers or revenue.

How FTMO compares in size
Measured on estimated monthly website visits for August 2026, FTMO ranks 3 of the 477 prop firms Prop Firm Pal tracks — larger than 99% of them, at roughly 9.59M visits a month.
The ranking covers every firm measured between June 2026 and August 2026, each on its own latest reading in that window. Firms last measured before June 2026 are left out rather than shown with a stale figure, so the total moves month to month.
Size is not quality. A large firm is one that markets successfully, and several of the most visited firms in this ranking have the strictest rules; some of the smallest pay out reliably to everyone who asks. What the ranking is useful for is scale — whether you are looking at an established operation or something very new.

FAQs
What is FTMO's profit split?
FTMO pays 90% of profits on accounts gained through the 1-Step challenge and 80% on the 2-Step. On the 2-Step the split rises to 90% if the Scaling Plan or Premium Programme conditions are met.
What are the FTMO challenge rules?
The 2-Step needs a 10% profit target, then 5% in Verification, with a 5% maximum daily loss, a 10% maximum loss and 4 minimum trading days per phase. The 1-Step needs 10% in one phase with a 3% daily loss, a 10% maximum loss, and no single day making up more than 50% of profits. Neither has a time limit.
Does FTMO have a trailing drawdown?
Only on the 1-Step. Its 10% maximum loss trails the highest end-of-day balance and never moves down, resetting when a reward is withdrawn; the 2-Step maximum loss is a static 10% of the starting capital.
Does FTMO have a consistency rule?
The 1-Step has one: under the Best Day Rule, your most profitable day may not exceed 50% of your positive days' profit to pass or to withdraw a reward. FTMO says there are no additional consistency requirements beyond its Trading Objectives.
Is news trading allowed at FTMO?
Yes during the evaluation, and on Swing accounts. On a Standard FTMO Account you may not open or close trades on affected instruments from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after selected releases such as NFP or CPI, including triggered stop losses.
