FAQs - Futures Consistency Rules
How futures prop firms measure consistency, when it applies, and how to get back under it.
A futures consistency rule caps your best single day as a share of the total net profit being assessed: under a 40% rule, a $1,200 best day needs at least $3,000 of total profit. Of the 19 verified futures firms in this calculator that state a percentage, 15 apply one to the evaluation and 10 to funded payouts, with limits from 20% to 55%. The same firm often uses a different limit for each stage and plan, so pick the rule for the account you are actually trading.
As our Alpha Futures profile records it: "Once Qualified, the 40% consistency rule applies to every Alpha account, Zero included - the largest day is measured against profit in the payout cycle." Pick the Alpha Futures preset above to test your own days against it, and confirm the current rule on Alpha Futures's own site before you rely on it.
As our Apex Trader Funding profile records it: "Evaluations apply a 30% consistency rule." "In a Performance Account the rule is 50%: the largest winning day must be less than half of net profit since the last payout request, or since account inception where no payout has been taken." Pick the Apex Trader Funding preset above to test your own days against it, and confirm the current rule on Apex Trader Funding's own site before you rely on it.
As published on Topstep's help centre (read 22 September 2026): on the Trading Combine, your best day must be at or below 55% of total profit to pass the evaluation; on the Express Funded Account, your best day must be at or below 40% of total profit to request a payout from a funded account. Pick the Topstep preset above to test your own days against it, and confirm the current rule on Topstep's own site before you rely on it.
At many futures firms it does: on a funded account the best day is measured against profit since the last approved payout, so each payout cycle starts again from zero. In our data, Alpha Futures, Apex Trader Funding, and Blueberry Futures state that the rule is measured per payout cycle. When a rule resets, enter only the days since your last payout in the day-by-day mode.
Divide your best day by the limit to get the total profit you need: a $1,500 best day under a 40% rule needs $1,500 ÷ 0.40 = $3,750. Subtract what you have made so far to get the shortfall. Only days smaller than your best day help - a bigger day becomes the new best day and raises the target - and losing days make it worse, because they cut total profit.

Answers on prop firms, funded accounts, challenges and how our platform works
To save money on a funded trading account, traders can use verified prop firm discount codes available on Prop Firm Pal. By applying these promo codes during checkout, traders reduce the cost of evaluation challenges. Combining structured comparisons with active discounts helps traders choose competitive programs while lowering upfront costs.
Prop trading is generally legal in most countries, but the regulatory status of specific prop firms can vary. Some jurisdictions have introduced rules affecting how prop firms operate or market their services. Certain prop firms also restrict access to traders in specific countries. Prop Firm Pal includes restricted country information on individual firm pages so you can quickly check whether a firm is available to traders in your region.
Yes, most prop firms charge a one-time challenge fee to enter an evaluation program. This fee typically ranges from around $50 for smaller account sizes to several hundred dollars for larger funded accounts. The fee covers access to the evaluation environment. If you pass, some firms refund the challenge fee with your first payout. Firms offering free challenges are rare and often compensate by taking a larger profit split or applying stricter conditions.
The best prop firm for futures trading will offer access to CME or exchange-listed contracts, clear rules around leverage and contract limits, and a payout structure suitable for high-frequency or systematic futures strategies. Futures prop firms often operate differently from forex-focused ones, with different fee structures and account types. Prop Firm Pal includes futures-focused firms in its comparisons so you can evaluate which programs support your preferred instruments and trading approach.
Each prop firm page on Prop Firm Pal includes a detailed company overview, evaluation rules, profit targets, drawdown limits, profit split information, available account sizes, trading instruments, restricted countries, FAQs, and user reviews.
